Is SCB Connection, Inc. and The Connection Club counseling for the participants?

No.  SCB Connection, Inc. is the 501(c)(3) nonprofit that offers The Connection Club. The Connection Club aims to empower youth and young adults by teaching essential life skills, including social emotional learning and conflict management. Through interactive workshops, the program builds confidence, promotes healthy relationships, and equips participants to address bullying and social pressures. Ultimately, the goal is to foster resilience, self-advocacy, and a supportive community 

What age group is The Connection Club best suited for?

The Connection Club is suitable for both male and female youth and young adults from 4th grade through high school.

Can The Connection Club be implemented in schools?

Yes! The Connection Club is flexible enough to be implemented in schools as an elective, after school program or in any capacity that best meets the needs of the school and students. 

Is The Connection Club intended specifically for at-risk youth?

No.  Our program is designed for any student who want to improve their conflict management and social= emotional skills. It’s especially helpful for those facing bullying, peer pressure, or social isolation, but it benefits all students seeking personal growth. 

Who facilitates the club?

 Founder Demetré Bivins leads the club meetings and has been a substitute teacher with Allen ISD since 2023. She has successfully passed the comprehensive Texas Education Agency (TEA) background check, which includes both state and FBI screenings.

Where has The Connection Club been implemented?

The Connection Club has been successfully implemented in several organizations/schools including in a juvenile detention center in Katy, Texas, an elementary school in Alvin ISD, Brazoria County Communities in Schools after school program in Pearland, Tx., a juvenile probation center in Houston, Dallas Park & Recreation summer camps, and in communities around the DFW area.

How is the success of The Connection Club measured?

 SCB Connection, Inc. utilize one of two assessments. The first assessment is a standardized instrument titled The Social Emotional Learning Survey Form 1.0 (SELF Survey). The SELF Survey is an optimal evidence-based, normed tool for identifying behavioral, social and emotional deficiencies. The survey is comprised of one form. The second assessment is the Devereux Students Strengths Assessment (DESSA). The DESSA is a widely utilized standardized, strength-based measure of the social and emotional competencies of students. 

How long is The Connection Club?

The club meets 1 time per week for a total of 12 weeks. 

  • Junior High - Thursdays 4:30p - 6:00p
  • High School - Wednesdays 5:00 - 6:30p
  • Elementary - Tuesdays 4:30p - 5:45p

Is there a fee for participants of the program?

Yes, the fee is $55 per participant per month. 

In what way can parents/guardians support their child(ren) that is participating in the program?

We desire and need parent/guardian support! One of the best ways to support your participant is to discuss what he/she is learning throughout the program. Parents/guardians can access the lessons electronically via Google Docs.

How do you address bullying?

  We address bullying by teaching students to recognize harmful behaviors, develop empathy, and respond constructively to conflict. Our approach includes interactive activities, role-playing, and practical exercises to build resilience and emotional awareness. 

What skills will the participants learn?

 Participants in The Connection Club will develop a comprehensive set of skills that promote emotional resilience, effective communication, and social responsibility. Through Social Emotional Learning (SEL), they will learn to manage their emotions, practice empathy, and foster positive relationships. Conflict management strategies will equip them to handle disagreements constructively, encouraging peaceful resolutions. Additionally, participants will gain tools to recognize and prevent bullying, both online and in person, while also building self-confidence to stand up for themselves and others. Finally, they will strengthen their ability to communicate assertively and advocate for their own needs, fostering a sense of independence and personal empowerment.
